Aug 3, 2026

Guest: Alexandra (Allie) Cornejo, School Librarian and Lead Librarian of Secondary Schools
From: Harlingen - Harlingen School of Health Professions Texas
Grade(s) Taught: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

Resources:

  • Symbols of the Jazz Age: Crafting Gatsby-Inspired Bookmarks: In this library makerspace lesson, students explore the world of The Great Gatsby by stepping into the Roaring Twenties. After learning about the fashion, economy, social changes, and bold new attitudes of the Jazz Age, students take a closer look at Art Deco design and its influence on architecture, style, and visual culture. Using symbols, silhouettes, and themes from the novel, students create original Art Deco-inspired bookmark designs that are engraved and cut on the Glowforge laser cutter and Canva, blending literary analysis, history, and creative design.
